Infrared (IR) Dome

Infrared optical domes need to have high transmittance in specific infrared bands, usually hemispherical or hyper hemispherical, to expand the field of view (FOV) and reduce optical distortion.

Common materials include:

ZnS: Strong wear resistance, commonly used in harsh environments (such as missile guidance heads).

ZnSe: with a wide range of light transmission (0.5-22 μm), suitable for MWIR and LWIR, but with lower hardness.

Sapphire: High mechanical strength, but limited infrared transmittance (mainly 1-5 μm).

MgF₂: It has good high temperature resistance and thermal shock resistance.
